A Unesco World Heritage Site known for its biodiversity and beauty, Manas National Park abuts the Bhutan border about 150km northwest of Guwahati. The park's 500 sq km of grasslands and lowland tropical forest harbour a very impressive list of animals including around 30 tigers, 30 one-horned rhinos, 100 barasingha (swamp deer), 500 wild water buffalo and over 1000 elephants, plus clouded and common leopards, dholes (wild dogs), golden and capped langurs, slow loris, sloth bears and some 475 bird species. The park is contiguous with Bhutan's Royal Manas National Park in the forested hills rising immediately behind the international border. The Manas (Beki) River flowing out of Bhutan is an additional scenic attraction.
